About 130 km away from busy chaotic city of Kolkata, a quiet, virgin seaside beach lies at Bakkhali. Route:

  • By Air: DumDum Airport in Kolkata is the nearest airport here. So, you have to come to Bakkhali from Kolkata either in train or in bus or in cars.
  • By Train: Namkhana station is the nearest railway station in Bakkhali. There are regular train services from Sealdah to Namkhana. Take a rickshaw van from the station to ferry ghat where you need to cross a narrow creek in a boat. From there take a local bus to reach Bakkhali.
  • By Road: Bakkhali 130 km away or 3.5 hours drive from Kolkata. There are regular bus services from Esplanade (Dharamtala). Private cars are also available in Kolkata to reach Bakkhali. The ride through Kona expressway is splendid one. For break journey, Namkhana and Diamond Harbour are two important stops. Take a local bus or trekker from there to reach Bakkhali sea resort. Note that from Namkhana car or bus has to cross the Hatania-Doania creek in a special ferry.

Nearest Airport – Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (Dumdum)

Famous Places around the area: Do take a walk between twin beach of Bakkhali and Frasergunj. Take some time off to check beautiful Henry’s island, Bishhalakshmi temple, crocodile breeding centre and Jambu Dwip. Don’t forget to check the Watch tower, from there you can see a breathtaking view of Sundarbans.

Best time to visit: Although you can visit anytime here but try to avoid mid-summer.

Local Famous Foods: Taste delicious Bengali foods along with sea foods. Try pomfret, hilsa and prawn. Do drink lots of coconut water and only drink mineral waters.

Local restaurants: Although most hotels have their own restaurants, but if you want to taste outside, then try hotel New Parijat, Frazargunj Indian Hotel and of course restaurant at Henry island. There are few road side outlets too lunch and dinner. They too serve delicious mouthwatering foods.
