Leander Paes once again showed that age is just a number for a legend as he grabbed the Australian Open mixed doubles title at the Rod Laver Arena along with Martina Hingis amongst huge cheer. It was Leander’s 15th Grand Slam title and 3rd Australian Open mixed doubles title.

The seventh seeded Indo-Swiss pair of Paes and Martina Hingis took one hour and a couple of minutes to see off the challenge from the defending champions. The Canadian-French pair of Daniel Nestor and Mdelanovic could not find an answer to the great display of tennis put forward by the seventh seeded pair as they lost eventually 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets. In the first set, Leander and Martina had it really easy as they broke once and won it 6-4. In the second set after they got the break the third seeds got that break back but could not prevent the second break of the set and eventually gave up to the class and experience of Paes and Hingis.

It was Hingis’ second Australian Open mixed doubles title. A very popular figure in Melbourne Martina had earlier won 3 Australian open singles title consecutively from 1997 to 1999. This time it was more than just a homecoming for a legend a like Martina Hingis.
