Nationwide Mobile Number Portability by Feb 2013

Kapil Sibal, Minister for Telecommunications  has announced that Nationwide Mobile Number Potability will be implemented by February 2013. This facility makes it possible for subscribers to retain their mobile numbers even when they shift from one state to another state in the country, i.e. from one telecom circle to another.

The current rules allow mobile number portability only if a subscriber wants to switch over to another telecom operator within the same circle.

As of 31st October 2012, 75.14 million requests for porting mobile numbers have been submitted in all the 22 telecom circles put together.
