At least three people have died in a Taliban attack outside American consulate in the western Afganistan on Friday.
The attack took place early in the morning with the powerful bomb blast in a car outside American consulate in Herat province. Following the blast, militants began firing on security forces in the area.
Two Afghan security staffs and a translator killed along with five attackers in gun exchange. 17 people were injured and rush to the nearby hospital.
“Our aim for this attack is to show the Americans that they are not safe anywhere in this country,” claiming the responsibility, Taliban spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi said in a statement.
“Taliban insurgents are in one compound fighting with Afghan guards and Americans are in another compound safe,” Herat police chief General Rahmatullah Safi said.
Robert Hilton, a U.S. Embassy spokesman, said “all consulate personnel are safe and accounted for.”
