Twenty students injured at Pennsylvania high school following knife attack

 

Twenty teenage students and 1 officer were injured following a knife attack by a 16-year-old male student at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, Pennsylvania on Wednesday. Two of the students out of four hospitalized victims are critical.

Franklin Regional High SchoolPolice has arrested the accused attacker identified as Alex Hribal and taken to the custody.

Murrysville Police Chief Thomas Seefeld told reporters that the accused has stabbed students aged between 14 and 17 in one wing of the school during a five-minute attack. The boy used two “straight knives”.

Seefeld has also informed that investigation is on and they are trying to find the motive behind the attack.

The incident took place around 7 a.m. when the students were arriving at the school. Authorities had made the first 911 call from the school at 7:13 a.m.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett said termed the incident as a “sad day” in the county.

“I would hate to say that we need metal detectors in every school,” Corbett said. “What [would] it say about our country,” Corbett said adding, “It’s really about anger,” Corbett said. “It doesn’t matter what the weapon is.”

In its complaint, Murrysville Police charged Alex Hribal with “4 counts of attempted homicide, 21 other counts in knife rampage.” He is also charged with one count of possessing a weapon on school property. The boy is believed to be treated as adult.
