Edward Snowden gets refugee status in RussiaAccording to WikiLeaks former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden has finally received refugee status in Russia and left the Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport on Thursday.

“Edward Snowden has successfully acquired refugee status in Russia and will shortly leave the airport,” WikiLeaks said on Twitter.

RIA news agency has quoted lawyer Anatoly Kucherena who said Snowden got asylum status for a year.

“I have just seen him off. He has left for a secure location … Security is a very serious matter for him,” Anatoly Kucherena confirmed state television.

The 30-year-old former NSA computer specialist, Edward Snowden revealed a massive US surveillance program through WikiLeaks and remin in Moscow from Hong Kong since June 23.
