United Kingdom goes polling on Thursday, commencing from 7:00 (BST) at about 50,000 polling stations across the nation. 50 million registered voters will decide the fate of 650 Westminster MP’s, along with which contest will be also for more than 9,000 council seats across 279 English local authorities.
Ballot boxes were sent to polling stations, which mainly comprise of not only schools and community halls, but also a pub, launderette and a school bus, according to a BBC report. For a few seats, results are expected to be out by Thursday midnight, whereas the others would take time, and the final results are expected to be declared by Friday noon.
Pre-poll surveys had earlier indicated that no single party would get a complete majority. However, as the election campaign entered its final leg, Prime Minister David Cameron said the Conservatives can win Thursday’s elections outright. Labour leader, Mr Miliband too, was optimistic about his victory.
Every party has made strong poll promises and the election is expected to be a tough battle between the parties, especially between the two main parties – the Conservatives and Labour.
Thursday’s election will go on till 22:00 hours (BST). However, officials said that those in the queue at the time the election concludes should be allowed to vote too.
