Manchester United suffers further humiliation

It has been the story for Manchester United so far in the season. And this time it was Swansea City who ushered in some more humiliation for the English Champions. Swansea earned a famous victory over the Red Devils at Old Trafford for the first time in their history as they won the FA Cup 3rd Round tie 2-1.

Things were looking ominous for Davis Moyes when he had to field a team that had no Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney even in the substitutes. And what happened after that was not what a die-hard ManU fan would have thought-losing in the third round of the FA Cup. Swansea again raised questions about the defense of United as they took advantage of a depleted Manchester United side plagued by injuries. Routledge opened the scoring for the visitors in the 14th minute of the match with a fine lob over keeper Lindegaard. It did not take too long for United to level the scoring as Mexican Javier Hernandez scored the equalizer in the 18th minute. It was not looking bad for United till Rio Ferdinand had to be substituted late in the second half who got injured in his knees. Fabio came on as the replacement. He hardly five minutes on the pitched and he made a rash tackle on a Swansea player, may be out of over-enthusiasm. What resulted was a direct red card Swansea City vs manchester unitedfor the Brazilian defender. It was an act of irresponsibility that led to the downfall of United. United were down to 10 men and Swansea seized the opportunity with both ahdns. 90th minute into the match, a cross flew in from the left. It beat one of the defenders. Wilfried Bony rose to the occasion and buried in a powerful header from not very far to put Swansea in the lead.

It was United’s 4th defeat in the last 6 home matches for United. David Moyes can’t be blamed too much for that. He tried to do his best with the limited resources that he had in his hand. United is going through a tough phase and the players really need to pull up their socks in order to avoid further embarrassment in the hands of teams like Swansea, West Brom, Everton.
