Ahmedabad Police registers FIR against activist Teesta Setalvad

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch have lodged an FIR against social activist Teesta Setalvad on Monday for fraud, breach of trust, cheating and criminal conspiracy.

The police also registered case against her husband Javed Anand, Tanvir Jafri – son of deceased Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, Salim Sandhi – Chairman of of Gulberg Society and Feroz Gulzar Mohammed Pathan – secretary of Gulberg Society after some riot victims from the 2002 Gulberg Society massacre case complain against them for fraud and cheating.

According to the riot victims Ms Setalvad allegedly collected foreign donations but never handover the money to the victim. She was also accused of using Rs 1.51 crores for personal expenses between 2007 and 2011.

Denying the charges Ms Setalvad said that, “timing of the FIR replete with a threat of arrests is nothing, but efforts to prevent prompt filing of appeal in the Zakia Jafri case against Narendra Modi and 59 others”.

Last month the court had given clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi over his alleged role in the 2002 riots.
