India to host 2017 U-17 football World Cup

India wins the bid to host the U-17 football World Cup which is scheduled to be held in 2017. India was chosen ahead of strong contestants in the likes of South Africa, Ireland and Uzbekistan in hosting this big event in 2017. It will be the first time India will host a tournament of such stature.

2017 U17 FIFA World-Cup will be in IndiaA delighted AIFF general secretary Kushal Das was recorded saying, “I have received a phone call from a senior FIFA official, confirming that India’s bid for organizing the under-17 World Cup in 2017 has been accepted by the executive committee in Brazil.” He added, “This is the happiest moment for Indian football in recent years. Importantly, the FIFA decision could easily prove to be the turning point for the game in the country.”

Now that India has got a responsibility of organizing such a big tournament, India will get an opportunity to improve the infrastructure of football. Currently India has got only two stadiums approved by FIFA for hosting international matches. FIFA has sent orders to the AIFF officials that they should prepare at least six more stadiums for hosting this tournament. This Under-17 World Cup will be played by 24 countries including India who will get an opportunity to play as the hosting nation. This is a huge opportunity for India to present themselves as one of the powerhouse of football in Asia.
