The big four accomplish tricky wins

All the big three teams in England maintained their winning run in the mid-week clashes as Chelsea came back to their winning form against Tottenham Hotspurs last night.

It all began with Manchester United’s narrow victory over Stoke City on Manchester United beat Stoke City 2-1Tuesday. United edged past Stoke 2-1, thanks to couple of brilliant save form David De Gea late in the match and a goalline save from Ashley Young in the final seconds of the added time in the second half. United opened the scoring through Fellaini’s header assisted by Ander Herrera in the 21st minute which was equalized in the 39th minute by an excellent strike from Nzonzi. Juan Mata scored from a free-kick midway through the second half to give United the slender lead which they managed to hold on to with some last stitch defending.

Arsenal maintained their winning run from the weekend as they won once again by a lone goal from Alexis Sanchez. This time the victim was the third placed Southampton. Such was the performance of Sanchez that his Manchester City beat Sunderland 4-1teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlaine praised him as a ‘breath of fresh air at Arsenal.

Manchester City dominated their visit to Sunderland as they demolished the home side 4-1. It was a firing performance from the defending champions as they came from behind to put 4 past the home team. The fight back was led by Sergio Aguero after they had fallen behind to a Wickham strike early in the first half. Aguero scored a brace while Jovetic and Pablo Zabaleta turned out to the other scorers for City.

Chelsea showed their bench strength by making it an easy win by 3-0 against Tottenham Hotspurs. Didier Drogba once again showed his ruthlessness in front of the goal in absence of first choice striker Diego Costa. Drogba opened the scoring for the home team mid way through the first half and three minutes later Eden Hazard doubled the lead for the home team. Drogba scored his second of the night and team’s third in the second half as Chelsea came back to winning ways after drawing against Chelsea v Tottenham HotspurSunderland on Saturday.

At the moment it seems that the title race is wide open once again, especially after Manchester United and Manchester City’s current winning streak. In fact Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho stated, “You can’t be champions in December. We’ve got six months more to try to be champions again but I don’t think it will be just two teams fighting for the title; there will be three or four. Manchester united have won their last four games and Arsenal are coming again.”
