Bayern to face Manchester United; Chelsea up against PSG

It could well be the end of the run for Manchester United in the Champions League 2013-14 as they are lined to face Bayern Munich in the last 8 of the tournament. Bayern Munich, the defending champions, will be quite happy to face a depleted Manchester United side in their bid to win the trophy for second time on a row. But they can’t take the English Champions lightly as they have maintained quite a good show in the European tournament except that away defeat at Athens.

Another English team, Chelsea, will be up against Paris Saint Germain in their bid to win the trophy for the second time in the club’s history. PSG, on the other hand, is looking good for a place in the semis. It will be a cracker of an encounter between these two sides.

There will be a repeat of the last year’s quarterfinal match as Real Madrid is drawn against Borussia Dortmund for the second time in two years. The Spanish giants, who smashed Schalke 04 9-2 in the last 16 tie will look for a reversal of fortune as Dortmund is yet to find their foot properly in the tournament this year. It will also be a sweet revenge for the Los Blancos if they are able to beat the Germans over the two legs and find a place in the semis.

Barcelona will be up against Athletico Madrid in the all-Spanish quarterfinal clash of the tournament. Barcelona with such an experienced team and Lionel Messi slowly getting back his touch is looking more likely to reach the next round. But Athletico Madrid can never be ruled out as they have a balanced side that can beat any side on a given day.

With such a draw it’s looking like we are up for some scintillating game of football in the upcoming months. It will simply be a treat to watch the 8 teams from the continent fighting out on the field for one the most prestigious trophies across the world.
