Twist in DDCA row; Delhi LG claims the commission set up by Kejriwal is illegal

According to Times of India report, Delhi lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung informed the Centre that the investigation commission set up by the Arvind Kejriwal government under Gopal Subramaniam to search the alleged corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) was illegal.

The report claims that Jung has informed the home ministry on Wednesday evening that “The Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 empowers only the Centre and state governments to appoint a commission of inquiry. Delhi being a Union Territory short of full statehood, a commission of inquiry may be ordered only with the concurrence of the Centre, through the LG, he said.”

AAP government has alleged that finance minister Arun Jaitley was involved in the irregularities in the DDCA.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attacked Jaitley and alleged his role in DDCa scam.

“Why is Jaitleyji so scared of DDCA probe? What is his role in DDCA scam?” Kejriwal tweeted.

Hitting back at Kejriwal Arun Jaitley wrote, “Is vulgarity the new norm of Indian politics? I hope not,” adding, “People in positions are expected to act with restraint. They cannot be outlandish. Vulgarity is not a right available to them. The political discourse cannot be couched in vulgar language. Falsehood delivered with vulgar overtones is not a substitute of truth. Lumpenisation of public discourse can never be high point of politics.”

Arun Jaitley already filed a criminal defamation suit in a city court against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five senior AAP leaders. Also he filed a separate civil defamation suit seeking Rs 10 crore as damages before the Delhi High Court.
