Congress desperate to probe Modi on snoopgate

It seems the Congress-led UPA government is desperate to tackle BJP’s Prime Ministerial nominee Narendra Modi. The government has decided to appoint a judge to head the probing committee by May 16 to probe into the role of Modi in snoopgate scandal. The government is anxious to form the panel before the new government is formed.

kapilsibal Attacking Narendra Modi, Union Minister Kapil Sibal said that UPA will appoint panel to probe Modi’s connection in snoopgate scandal.

“The judge heading the commission will be appointed before May 16. Why is Modi afraid of a probe? Gujarat set up a commission choosing their own judge, why are they scared of an independent probe,” asked Kapil Sibal.

Slamming UPA government over the issue, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley said no judge will be part of such a desperate exercise.

“I will be very curious to know the name of the judge who has agreed to ‘lend’ himself to the UPA. I will be surprised if there is one. I hope, for the cause of judicial dignity, no one agrees to be a part of this desperate exercise,” Jaitley had said.

It has been alleged that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had ordered illegal surveillance on a young woman architect in the state after her father requested Modi to “take care of my daughter and to ensure that she does not face any problem.”

According to some reports, a sitting judge from Allahabad High Court could soon be appointed to lead the commission.

Narendra ModiConfirming the news Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that government will announce the committee soon and there will be no violation of the model code of conduct.

“The commission of inquiry was ordered much before the  model code of conduct was announced. So the announcement of the name (of the  judge) can still happen. It will not be a violation of the model code of conduct,” Shinde said.

He made the clarification since BJP had earlier said that it would approach the EC if the inquiry was taken forward at this point.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has taken up this issue against Modi and has been seen slamming him over the Snoopgate controversy while addressing the election rallies across the country.
