31 killed in China following a blast in XinjiangAt least 31 were killed and 90 others were injured in the China following a series of explosions at an open market in the western Chinese region of Xinjiang on Thursday.

According to state media Xinhua, the incident took place around 7:50 a.m. this morning when two SUVs which plowed into people at the open market in Urumqi. Explosives were reportedly thrown out of the vehicles.

Several injured have been taken to the nearest hospitals.

China’s Ministry of Public Security said the attack was “a serious violent terrorist incident” and promises to crack down the perpetrators.

President Xi Jinping condemned the attacked and said that terrorists who are behind the blast will be “severely” punished.
