Private sector executives compete to lead the PSBs; for the first time

The two popular private sector executives of Lakshmi Vilas Bank (LVB) and VBHC Value homes are in a bid to lead the two public sector banks (PSBs).
It’s for the first time that Government has opened up opportunities for financial sector executives to apply for such high-posted jobs in state run banks.
MD and CEO of Rakesh Sharma and MD P S Jayakumar are among the five executives, including three from the state run banks who are in a neck to neck competition to be the Managing Director and CEOs of the five large public sector banks viz. Punjab national bank, Canara bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India and IDBI Bank.
Some of the above banks are expecting a much sought-for head.
Sharma, is comparatively new to the private sector and has been serving SBI; taking up assignments like Chief General Manager for Patna Circle.
On the other hand, Jayakumar has worked with private sector and currently assigned at a real estate company. Starting his career with CitiBank, in 1986 and went on to clinch the post of Country Head for consumer business in India.
Not only that, he has been the head of consumer lending in Asia Pacific and Far East.
