Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan passed away at a Karachi hospital on Wednesday after long illness. He was 84. The India-born Pakistani ghazal genius Mehdi Hassan’s long musical career which lasted five decades come to an end today.

Mehedi Hassan made Urdu poetry more popular through his musical presentation to millions of Pakistani and Indian fans across the globe.
Born in undivided India in 1927, Mehedi Hasan’s family migrated to Pakistan after partition. Hassan is survived by 14 children.

May his soul rest in peace in heaven.
