UKIP leader Nigel Farage calls it quits

United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage, in the latest developments, has declared that he shall ‘step down’ as the leader of the party. This comes in after UK’s referendum to leave the European Union.

“My aim in politics was to get Britain out of the European Union, and so I feel it’s right that I should now stand aside as leader of UKIP”, the veteran leader stated in his speech, post Brexit.

However, this is not the first time that he has put his resignation on paper. Previously in 2015, he apparently had quit leadership after the general polls, but had a change of mind just few days later. He has vouched that this time he wouldn’t be going back on his decision, though.

Farage has also declined to campaign for his suitable successor, but satted that he anticipates his replacement to be in place during the party’s autumn session meet. His decision clearly  means that UKIP now joins the Conservatives in their pursuit of a new leader.
