SC says Srinivasan should quit as BCCI chief

The Supreme Court on Tuesday has came down heavily on BCCI Chief N Srinivasan and said he should step down from his post to allow fair probe into the IPL spot-fixing scam.

“In our view, the president of the BCCI should step down. There can be no fair investigation into the IPL fixing case till he steps down. The matter is also so nauseating,” said Justice A.K. Patnaik.

Justice Mudgal committee report had indicted Srinivasan’s son-in-law and former Team Principal of Chennai Super Kings – Gurunath Meiyappan along with Rajasthan Royals team owners.

“It’s nauseating that N. Srinivasan continued as BCCI chief, he should go if cricket has to be cleaned,” the court observed.

Justice Patnaik also criticised senior counsel C.A. Sundaram who was defending BCCI, by saying, “We will show the papers. You see it and tell us as a counsel about your opinion and not as a paid counsel for Srinivasan.”

“Can we say that the probe report was managed and if we say so, then what will be the consequences. Why is Srinivasan sticking to his chair? If you don’t step down, then we will pass the order,” Justice A.K. Patnaik added.

Srinivasan has declined to comment on the issue.

“I don’t want to say anything. I have not read it,” Srinivasan said.

The next hearing will be on March 27.
