No Sri Lankan cricketers in Chennai IPL matches


After Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said that she will not allow any Sri Lankan players in Chennai for IPL matches, the BCCI confirmed that the team will not include any Sri Lankan players while they play in Chennai.

No Sri Lankan Players in IPL 6 Chennai mathcesIn a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, J Jayalalithaa said, “In such a hostile and tense environment, we apprehend that the participation of Sri Lankan players in the IPL tournament, with many games to be played in Chennai, will aggravate an already surcharged atmosphere and further offend the sentiments of the people.”

IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla said, “Since the local administration has advised something, we have to keep that in mind. The security of Sri Lankan players is paramount.”

Tamil activists have already threatened to disrupt matches if any Sri Lankan players play on Chennai soil.

The sixth season of Indian Premier League will be started on April 3.
