Man City puts half-a-dozen past the table-toppers

Manchester City beat Arsenal 6-3

Manchester City maintained their brilliant form in the Premier League as well when they hammered 6 goals against Arsenal on derby day. Coming of a moral boosting 3-2 victory against European champions Bayern Munich, and that too in their own backyard, Manchester City won the match against the Premier League leaders Arsenal 6-3.

It was a total team performance from Man City as no one could be singled out for doing something special. City opened the scoring through their ace Argentine striker Sergio Aguero within the first quarter of the match. Arsenal drew level through a Theo Walcott goal in the 31st minute but the lead was restored within 8 minutes of the equalizer through a goal from Alvaro Negredo. The first half ended with City leading 2-1.

As the second half began it Manchester who showed utter dominance as they kept the ball in their possession. It was a matter of just few minutes when Fernandinho scored to give the hosts a 2-goal advantage. Arsenal tried to claw back into the match with some spirited display. They got rewarded as Theo Walcott completed his brace through a well-taken lob over the City goalkeeper. However Silva restored the 2-goal advantage as he directed a centre from Jesus Navas from close range. Few minutes later Fernandinho scored his second goal of the match as the Gunners went out for all-out attack leaving their defense open. With few minutes remaining Per Mertesacker scored a consolation goal for the visitors. However the humiliation was not yet finished. It finally came to an end after Yaya Toure slotted home from the penalty spot with few seconds remaining in the clock to make the score 6-3 in favour of the home team.

Manchester City vs Arsenal

It was bad day in the office for Arsenal as manager Arsene Wenger remarked at the post-match interview. But things are not looking too easy for the current leaders as they saw their lead getting cut to just 2 points. Chelsea who enjoyed a narrow 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace is also looking good to threaten Arsenal’s stay at the pole position.
