Liverpool, Man City make merry on the field; Man United also has it easy

It was raining goals in England last night as most of the top flight teams scoring lot of goals against their respective matches. It all began with Chelsea’s drubbing of Arsenal 6-0. Manchester City and Liverpool followed the trend set on the day by Chelsea as they won by huge margins against their opponents.

Manchester City beat Fulham 5-0

Manchester City closed the gap between current league-leader Chelsea on the points table as they put up a 5-star performance against bottom-placed Fulham at the Etihad. City’s Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure scored a hat-trick which included two spot-kicks and a superb long ranger to set up the 5-0 victory. Fernandinho and Martin Demichelis each had one goal written by the side of their name as Fulham failed to put up any resistance against a rampant Manchester City-side. Things worsened for them when they went down to 10 men due to marching orders to Fernando Amorebieta.

Liverpool beat Cardiff City 6-3

Liverpool managed to score 6 goals against Ole Gunner Solkjaer-managed Cardiff City to become strong contenders for the title after a long time. Cardiff tried to put up a brave show but failed to match up with the Reds as the match ended in a scoreline 6-3 with Suarez recording a hat-trick and Martin Skrtel scoring twice along with Daniel Sturridge hitting the target from close range. Jordan Mutch scored a brace for Cardiff and Fraizer Campbell put in the third to put the Liverpool defense under real pressure. But it was the strong attacking line that rescued Liverpool from any sort of upset in the end.

Manchester United beat West Ham United 2-0

In a late Start at Upton Park, Manchester United carried their winning temperament to enjoy a clinical victory over the Hammers. Wayne Rooney’s first half brace and a solid midfield display from Marouane Fellaini and Darren Fletcher saw the 20-time champion winning 2-0 over West Ham United. This match will however remain in the memories for a long time for Wayne Rooney’s 56-yard goal few minutes after the kick-off. It was simple clearance from Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney stood strong on his feet to wipe away the weak challenge of defender Tomkins to earn the ball just ahead of the center-line. Rooney then showed his great technique and presence of mind to hit from that distance which found the advancing West Ham goalkeeper in trouble and eventually the ball found the back of the net as David Beckham, who was there in the VIP box, saw almost a repetition of what he did as a youngster during his days in the same club. Rooney then added a second which resulted from a defensive error before the second half. In the end Manchester United did it with ease as they still remain in contention for the 4th position in the points table.
