Chelsea gets back to winning ways; Liverpool falters

Chelsea beat FulhamChelsea made a winning comeback to the Premier League when they beat Fulham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge last night. But current table-toppers Liverpool surprisingly went down 1-0 to Southampton after a dismal performance.

London club Chelsea finally put behind their miserable run of two consecutive losses in the hands of Everton in Premier League and FC Basel in Champions League to come back to the winning track. A spirited Chelsea team dominated the match right from the very beginning and enjoyed a possession of almost 60% throughout the match. Oscar gave the hosts a much-deserved lead which was doubled up by John Obi Mikel later in the ma5ch to complete a clinical victory. Fulham played a chasing role throughout the match as they had no answer to such spirited Chelsea onslaught.

Liverpool surprisingly went down to Southampton 1-0 away from home to suffer season’s first defeat. Liverpool fielded a side without the talented playmaker Phillipe Coutinho and his absence could be felt every time the ball went to their opponents’ half. Southampton seized this opportunity as they pressed forward in search of a deserved lead. They got one when Dejan Lovren headed in from a flag-kick in the 53rd minute. The hosts played out rest of the match clearing the balls from their own half as Liverpool lost to Southamptonthey kept the visitors at bay. This defeat saw the Merseysiders conceding the top position to rivals Chelsea on goal difference.

Everton continued their great run in the tournament when they defeated West Ham United 3-2 in an exciting encounter. Hull city also notched up a victory with a similar score line, as that of Everton, to drub Newcastle United in their home ground. While West Bromwich Albion had it easy in drubbing Sunderland 3-0, Aston Villa hanged tough to claim their victory over Norwich City at Villa Park with a lone goal.
