The Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi who has been desperately portraying himself as an anti-corruption crusader has finally bow down yesterday and gave a nod to a pre-poll alliance for upcoming Lok Sabha polls with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD.
Rahul who was not very keen to go with Lalu, a convict in corruption charges, had to concede at the last moment due to political compulsion in the state. Many feels the tie-up between Congress and RJD may hit Rahul’s image too in the coming days.
A ‘secular alliance’ The RJD, NCP and Congress will give fight to BJP lead-NDA and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) The RJD in Bihar. While RJD would contest 27 seats, the Congress got 12 seats and Sharad Pawar’s NCP will contest in one seat.
“Congress would contest from Sasaram (SC), Kishanganj, Aurangabad, Supaul, Hajipur (SC), Purnia, Patna Sahib, Nalanda, Samastipur (SC), Valmikinagar, Gopalganj and Muzaffarpur. NCP will contest Katihar seat,” RJD chief Lalu Prasad told reporters.
RJD will contest in Paschim Champaran, Purvi Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Jhanjharpur, Araria, Madhepura, Darbhanga, Vaishali, Siwan, Maharajganj, Ujiyarpur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Patliputra, Ara, Buxar, Karakat, Jehanabad, Gaya (SC), Nawada and Jamui (SC) constituencies.
Lalu claims that his secular front will defeat the ‘communal forces’ of BJP and LJP. He also said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was a non-factor in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
