Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent reference to the nation of Pakistan by accusing it of creating a “nuisance” for India, has been termed to be “unfortunate” by Islamabad, the nation’s capital city.

On Sunday, while addressing to the masses at the Dhaka University, Modi had stated that Pakistan had been troubling India by promoting terrorism on a large scale. Taking exception to the statement, an official spokesperson for the Pakistan Foreign Office on Tuesday remarked that Modi’s statement, in which he acknowledged the Indian government’s involvement in the events of 1971 in what was then the Eastern Province of Pakistan only, confirmed Islamabad’s “stance on India’s negative role against a sovereign neighbouring State.” The spokesperson also emphasised further on the fact that Islamabad believes in peaceful co-existence and maintaining good neighbourly relations with India.

On Sunday, Modi had stated India did not ill-treat the 90,000 Pakistani soldiers who had surrendered to the Army during the 1971 war but despite that Pakistan encouraged terrorism across the border. He also said the country did not use Bangladesh’s territory for causing tensions and chaos for Pakistan nor used the POWs for blackmailing it.
