MLA’s threatened with death, claims Manjhi; calls Nitish Kumar ‘Bishma Pitamah’

Former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi addressed a press conference at his residence on Friday, after he resigned from his post, accusing JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar of being a silent spectator and trying to remote control the government.

As the JD(U) is hoping the Bihar governor to invite them to form a government in the state, Manjhi in his press conference, alleged that his MLA’s were threatened and sent death threats, ahead of the trust vote, adding that he himself received them.

Asserting Nitish Kumar acted as ‘Bhishma Pitamah’, Manjhi said Kumar did not utter a word when he was not allowed to do any work.  An ejected Manjhi said that he was victimized because of him, belonging to the most backward caste, thus playing the caste card, and further saying that he resigned to prevent the pure atmosphere of the parliamentary system.

While JD(U), Congress, RJD and CPI had asked their MLA’s to vote in favour of Nitish Kumar, 87 BJP MLA’s were asked to support Manjhi, who, in his press conference claimed that 140 legislators could have supported him had there been a secret ballot.

Jitan Ram Manjhi, the former Bihar CM put into his papers before the vote trust on Friday. A big drama then unfolded as BJP MLA’s protested against his resignation, while those of JD(U) celebrated.

RJD’s Lalu Yadav said Manjhi should have done this earlier, so did Nitish Kumar, who added that the BJP’s game plan had been exposed.

Jumping into defence the BJP said it had played no role in this matter. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain was quoted by The Times Of India as saying, “BJP stood for justice, we stood for a person from Maha Dalit Samaj, we have fulfilled our responsibility.”

After Manjhi’s resignation, JD (U) is now waiting for the governor’s invitation to form a government in the state. In the meantime, the Bihar Assembly has been adjourned sine die since Manjhi’s resignation.
