Just ahead of the much-speculated trust vote on the floor of Bihar Assembly, the chief minister resigned after he failed to gather support. He met Governor KN Tripathi and handed over his resignation letter and recommended the dissolution of Bihar Assembly.

Manjhi who was sacked by his party JD (U) earlier this month, had so far refused to step down and handed over the reign to former chief minister Nitish Kumar, whom the party elected as the leader of JDU legislators.

Although BJP had openly supported Majhi and promised its 87 legislators’ support, but it wouldn’t be suffice to prove his majority in the assembly. Majhi only had 12 JD(U) MLAs support.

Nitish Kumar, on the other hand, has support of 130 MLAs including 99 from his party, 24 from RJD and 5 from Congress.
