Govt rules out rollback despite opposition demands

The Narendra Modi government has ruled out possibility of rollback into the railways passenger fare hike despite growing opposition demand.

Ravi Shankar PrasadBlaming the UPA II government for left railways ‘bleeding’, senior BJP leader and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that government had no choice but to hike the rail passenger fare by 14.2 percent. However, he said that ultimately it will provide benefit to the people.

“Railways is suffering a heavy loss daily. To give better services, there is a need of resources,” said Prasad in an interview with CNN-IBN, adding, “There will be a little unease to the people but ultimately this is for the benefit of the people.”

Justifying the fare hike, Prasad said that there was a severe need of modernization of the railways to deliver better services to the passengers.
