Congress protests against Meghwal, effigy burnt, resignation demanded

New Delhi: Women workers from the Congress Party protested outside the Bhartiya Janata Party in New Delhi on Wednesday. Women workers Congress protests in demand of Meghwal's resignationgathered outside the BJP headquarters and protested against BJP’s Union Minister for Chemical and Fertilizers Nihalchand Meghwal who has been accused of rape.

Nearly a month after BJP formed its government in the country it is being now cornered by the Congress Party over this serious issue. Nihalchand Meghwal is being blamed by a Jaipur based women for raping her three years back, in 2011.

According to the women, her husband drugged her and then allowed his friends, including Meghwal to rape her. She had also filed an FIR in 2011 but the Rajasthan police filed a closure report in the case calling it a ‘false’ one.

Hindi news channel News 24 reported that a video footage of the victims marriage indicated that Nihalchand Meghwal is a friend of the victim’s husband. The channel reported that they both are seen embracing each other and sitting together.

While speaking to media persons, the victim said, “From Nihalchand’s side a person had visited my village promising me of providing a job and asking congress protestto forget whatever had happened. This is why there is a pressure mounting on us to take the case back.”

“I want security,” she demanded while claiming that her life is in danger as they can kill her. The victim also says that she wants to meet the Prime Minister.

Women Workers of the Congress party, meanwhile protested against Meghwal at 11 Ashoka Road outside the BJP headquarters. However, the protest could not turn massive as security was deployed in the area. Also, the women police officials were positioned there to avoid any sort of violence.

During their protest, the congress party workers, burned an effigy of Union Minister Nihalchand Meghwal and demanded an immediate resignation of him. The Press Trust of India reported that Meghwal told the media persons at Srigangapur district that he will not resign.

The Minister has also been summoned by the Jaipur High Court for 20th June that is tomorrow. So-far it is not sure whether he will appear before the court or not.

The Woman’s Commission, meanwhile, has written to the Prime Minister in black and white demanding resignation of Meghwal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has just finished his visit to neighbouring Meghwalcountry Bhutan and there was no word from him on this case.

This is the third case where-in a minister from the Modi government is polemicized. Recently, questions were raised on former General V.K. Singh’s tweets on Army General Designate DalbirSingh Suhag. Previously too, SmritiIrani’s educational qualifications were questioned as difference was spot in the affidavits.

Prime Minister Modi has always been talking of his strict stand on the violence against women. Continuing to keep a strict stand, the Modi government must take actions against their own minister. If Meghwal is found guilty in the case then he must step down and action should to take against him.
