CBI arrests Gujarat IPS officer in Ishrat Jahan encounter case

A Gujarat IPS officer was arrested in connection with Ishrat Jahan encounter case on Thursay.

CBI has arrested GL Singhal who was the serving ACP in 2004 during the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.

19-year-old Ishrat was shot dead by Ahmedabad Crime Branch on June 15, 2004 along with Javed Sheikh aka Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar. Later police insisted that those were four LeT terrorists who were on a mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

After Ishrat’s mother Shamima Kausar and Pranesh Pillai’s father Gopinath Pillai filed petitions in the court against police version, the investigation was taken over high court. High court appointed SIT to probe into the matter. 20 policemen are in question including DIG Vanzara.
