Activist Teesta Setalvad’s Mumbai house searched by CBI

CBI officials, on Tuesday morning, searched the Juhu residence of activist Teesta Setalvad, following the matter related to the funds of her NGO. Along with Setalvad’s Juhu residence, her husband Javed Anand and colleague Gulam Mohammad Peshimam’s residence was also searched by the team of CBI officials. Not just the residences, but also the office of the NGO run by Teesta and her team was searched by the officials.

A surprised and shocked Mrs Setalvad said she has been fully offering cooperation.

“We had written a letter to CBI offering full cooperation and telling the agency that whatever so-called offences are registered against us, we will cooperate. So we don’t understand the rationale behind this entire operation,” she said, while adding, “We believe that it is a caged-parrot in operation and its a political vendetta and they are trying to humiliate and intimidate us,” she said, noting “the team here is very professional but we don’t know where it will end.”

Activist Teesta Setalvad had come to the lead during the 2002 Gujrat riots, for campaigning for the victims of the riots who had suffered tremendously. Subsequently, she had also started an NGO for giving funds to the riot victims.
