Bangalore Police has arrested the founders of fake ecommerce portal BigSop.com for cheating and conducting fraud. After receiving complaints from many people, Bangalore Crime Branch had raided the office of BigSop.com and arrested the owners.
The site, which is now closed down, used to announce unbelievable offers like “You are lucky Internet winner for iPhone for Rs 599” etc through nationwide advertisements. They asked the buyers to register with them and pay the money through ICICI Bank payment gateway. After few days the site used to simply inform the customers that the ‘product is out of stock’ and converted the money into their internal ‘points’, which could only be redeemed purchasing products from their own site. After examining the Bangalore police confirmed that the products were mainly sub-standard and without any warranty or guarantee.
Under the supervision of DCP Crime, Abhishek Goyal, the Bangalore Police today raided office premises in Bangalore and sealed Rs 75 lakh in the bank accounts of BigSop.com.
