Justice H L Dattu will be next Chief Justice of India.

According to the Times of India report, the government has cleared Dattu’s appointment and Prime Minister’s Office has forwarded the file to the President for his approval.

The present CJI Lodha will retire on the 27th September.

Justice Dattu joined the Supreme Court as a judge in 2008. He has previously served as judge of the Karnataka High Court, Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court and Chief Justice of Kerala HC.

Justice Dattu also headed the bench that was monitoring investigations into the 2G spectrum scam till last year.
