Thambidurai files nomination for Deputy Speaker

In a game changing move, BJP proposed senior AIADMK leader M Thambidurai’s name in the post of Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha.

Veteran BJP leader LK Advani, former BJP president Rajnath Singh and External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj proposed his name in the parliament as Thambidurai filed his nomination papers today.

Although in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, both J Jayalalithaa and Narendra Modi attacked each other, but soon after the results, both the leaders called and congratulated each other.

Reports claim that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu talking to other opposition parties including Congress to support Thambidurai’s nominations.

It will be a huge gain for the ruling party if they secure AIADMK’s support in the Rajya Sabha where it is in a minority. With 10 members in the Rajya Sabha, AIADMK can help the NDA government, which has 65 members, to pass crucial bills like FDI in insurance and judges’ appointment.
