Pakistan PM Yousuf Raza Gilani Indicted

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was indicted by Pakistan’s Supreme Court today for contempt of court. Gilani who refused to revive corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, is now in a turmoil position.  Gilani could face an imprisonment for six months if he is convicted.

Gilani pleaded not guilty and the seven judges bench at apex court gave time till February 27 for his testimony. Gilani is the first Pakistani prime minister to be accused by Supreme Court.

All eyes are now at Gilani for his next move. Speculations has started whether he will submit his resignation after today’s verdict.

The apex court has rejected Gilani’s stand on Pak President Asif Ali Zardari, Gilani claimed that the president enjoys immunity and cannot be investigated. Earlier the court had ordered PM to write to Swiss Bank authorities for alleged money laundered of USD 60 million by Zardari.
