Attacker says beheading of soldier was act of revenge

A British soldier was attacked on Wednesday by two armed men in a broad daylight in a street in the southeast district of Woolwich and beheaded him.

Both the men were shot by police and are now being treated at a local hospital.
The incident took place just outside Royal Artillery Barracks and security has been tighten in London.

After beheading one of the suspects recorded a video and said he was taking revenge for crimes by the British army abroad.

“We swear by the almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you until you leave us alone. We must fight them as they fight us, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. I apologise that women had to witness this today, but in our land our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your government, they don’t care about you. You think David Cameron is going to get caught in the street when we start busting our guns? Do you think the politicians are going to die? No, it’s going to be the average guy like you,” one of the attacker said in video.

British Prime Minister David Cameron condemned the attack and called it a ‘sickening and appalling crime’.

The US also condemned the attack and said, “The United States condemns today’s attack in the Woolwich district of London. We stand with our UK allies in the face of such senseless violence. Our thoughts and condolence are with the family of the victim and the British people.”
