Car manufacturing in India has become a very profitable business. With the availability of high-tech, cheap labours, specialist engineers, easily available manufacturing sites, low cost operations set up and affordable tax – India has become a destination for the major car makers to set up local factory here to develop vehicles.
India has exported around 5,93,507 unit cars in the 2013-14 FY with increase of 6% than last year.
Nissan, which is not at all a big player in the domestic market, has become country’s second largest car exporter company, overtaking mighty Maruti Suzuki.
According to the latest SIAM list for the year 2013-2014, Nissan has exported 1,16,314 vehicles outside India with 17.5% increase. Nissan’s plant in Oragadam in Tamil Nadu exported cars to over 100 countries, riding on the success of Sunny sedan. Nissan is hopeful to increase more exporting business with the new Datsun Go model.
Korean carmaker Hyundai continues to be the biggest passenger car exporters from India with exporting 2,33,260 units in the financial year 2013-2014. Last year they have exported 2,59,811 units.
India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki which dominates the domestic market has registered 15.8% decrease in export than the last fiscal year. In the financial year 2013-2014 it has exported 1,01,352 units cars.
Some of the other major car exporters in the country are Ford, Volkswagen and Toyota.
