Air India de-rostered (taken off flying duty) two pilots who were involved in a brawl inside the cockpit of the flight AI 611. The captain of the flight had complained that the co-pilot had misbehaved with him. He also said that the co-pilot hit him when they were inside the plane which was being prepared for the flight to Delhi from Jaipur.

“Both the pilots have been derostered (means taken off flying duty). An inquiry has been ordered into this,” Air India spokesman G P Rao said He added that there was no violence in the cockpit.

The captain has clearly told Air India that he would not like to fly with the blamed co-pilot again. He has allegedly misbehaved with some other captain in the past as well. The captain has told in detail about what had happened on the flight. He said that the trouble had begun when the flight was ready to take-off for Delhi.

Along with Air India, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will most likely investigate into this issue.

“AI and DGCA should examine this latest problem in the cockpit. If the complaints about the said co-pilot’s behavior are found true, then in the interest of aviation safety the authorities must act,” said a pilot.

According to other senior AI captains, the guilty co-pilot has faced similar charges in the past.

“Three years back, he asked the commander of a flight to come out of the cockpit, remove the stars on his shirt collar and then fought with him. A year later, another commander complained about his ‘rude and unbecoming’ behavior in the cockpit and questioned his state of mind,” said a senior commander.
