Cannes CountDown : Cinéfondation Prizes for students Announced

Cinéfondation Prizes is announced by The Cinéfondation and Short Films Jury headed by Abbas Kiarostami and including Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Noémie Lvovsky, Daniela Thomas and Joachim Trier at The Cannes 2014.

The body chose 16 student films, chosen out of 1,631 entries coming from 457 film schools around the world. It was announced at Buñuel Theatre and followed by the screening of the winning films. Not only that the young makers were rewarded €15,000 for the First Prize, €11,250 for the Second and €7,500 for the Third – the first ranker was guaranteed that his first feature will be screened at Cannes.

The winners are declared as follows:

First :

Skunk,”directed by Annie Silverstein

School :University of Texas at Austin, USA.

Second Prize:

“Oh Lucy!” directed by Atsuko Hirayanagi

School : NYU Tisch School of the Arts Asia, Singapore

Third:

“Lievito Madre,”  directed by Fulvio Risuleo

School : Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Italy

The excellent viewing set the stage for the kick-start of the festival.
