Silicon Valley Indian experts are returning back to India

Having given one of our country’s top assets – our “fresh brains” to the California valley, India is quite high on bringing all of them back. Giving them; not only a thriving start up culture and a handsome pay, but also free health care for the in-laws.

India is certainly having an opportunity to put a feather in the hat for the after seeing the recent Morgan Stanley surveys, where Indian start ups like flipkart and Snapdeal attracted more than $5 billion investment last year. It also showed a drastic where it was just $2 billion in 2013.

Where this scenario was exact opposite in the 1970s where it was considered prestigious to move abroad having aspired to become an engineer. However, the change is slow, but certainly steady.

“The appetite for finding engineering talent … is great,” said George Kaszacs of Silicon Valley-based headhunters Riviera Partners, who helps Indian startups scout for potential hires.

Much to our excitement, the largest e- commerce company, Flipkart recently hires two Indian-origined senior executives from Google Inc in California, currently headquartered in Bengaluru. Apart from those, Snapdeal,

InMobi and Zomato each say they have hired between a handful to as many as 20 people from Silicon Valley in the past five years. InMobi, a mobile phone advertising platform, provides summer camps for kids and meetings where spouses can socialise with one another. It offers health insurance not just for employees and their spouse, but their in-laws too, which Abhay Singhal says is a big hit. As said in NDTV the deep family bonds rooted in the country also add to the justification of the returnees. With a chance; to live close to the parents, and close relatives, led them to leave the biggies in the west.

However, with the movies come the critics and hence Abhay Singhal also adds, “One thing that unfortunately India does not have great answers to yet is the quality of living outside of work,” Singhal, one of the founders of the company, said.
