Legendary ‘human computer’ Shakuntala Devi passes away

Shakuntala Devi passed awayLegendary Indian mathematician and astrologer Shakuntala Devi, who was popularly known as “human computer” for her numerical calculation abilities, passed away at a hospital in Bangalore on Sunday following a brief illness. She was 83.

A child prodigy, Shakuntala Devi was born in 1929 in Bangalore. She had the ability to calculate complex numerical calculations in almost instantaneously.

 “Madam breathed her last around 8.15 a.m. today (Sunday) in a private hospital due to heart failure and renal problem,” Shakuntala Devi’s associate Kavita Malhotra told IANS.

“She was a legend. Really, we didn’t expect madam to go like this. She was very lively and was looking forward to getting well soon. But her health was not good and it’s a great loss for all of us,” Kavita Malhotra added.
