Former Director of IIT Madras and eminent columnist, Prof P.V. Indiresan, passes away in Pune on Sunday. He was 85.
The teacher of electronics and electrical engineering, Prof. Indiresan was regular columnist with national newspapers like Business Line, The Hindu and The Indian Express. He has written a book, “Managing Development: Geographical Socialism, Decentralization and Urban Replication”.
Prof P.V. Indiresan was active member of Planning Commission.
He was also the President of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, and of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.
Since 2010 Prof PV Indiresan was heading an expert technical committee formed by Election Commission to tackle EVM machine tampering. The committee recommended introduction of VVPAT system in 2011. Ironically he died just hours before he was to chair the technical committee meet on EVMs.
Prof. P V Indiresan considered as the best ever Director of IIT-Madras since its inauguration. He was there for 20 years from 1978 to 1998.
Prof. Indiresan was awarded with Padma Bhushan by the President of India.
