Carnatic musician Dr. Pinakapani passes away

Noted Carnatic classical musician Dr. Sreepada Pinakapani passed away on Monday evening in Kurnool. He was 100 and is survived by three sons and three daughters.

Carnatic musician Dr. Pinakapani passes awayLegendary Music guru and medical doctor cum professor, Dr Pinakapani, was genius in one body. Although he was bed-ridden since 2004 due to paralysis, he continues teaching music till his last breath.

He has written many books om carnatic music including the famous Gaanakalasarvasvamu which contains minute details of the krithis.

He was awarded the Padmabhushan in 1984. He has also received other awards such as Kalaprapoorna, Rabindranath Tagore Ratna, Gana Vidya Varadhi, Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award, Sangeetha Kalanidhi.

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed grief over his death.

Dr. Pinakapani was born at Priya Agraharam in Srikakulam district on August 3, 1913.
