Aaswad restaurant

Dadar is an extremely busy and diverse place in the City, bustling with excitement through the day. Shivaji Park, the soul of Dadar houses an amazing variety of restaurants and outlets. But, in a silent corner is the widely popular “Aaswad”.

IMG-20160821-WA0006Starting off in 1986 as a small business, Aaswad has now expanded into an iconic joint. The joint is divided into two sections: one catering to Sweets and the other specifically for patrons who visit to enjoy the fresh snacks.

Catering specifically to Maharashtrian Food, Aaswad recently received an award for their iconic Misal Pav from a London based panel. Their other specialties being the Kothimbir Wadi, Pithla Bhakari and Thalipeeth.

The Kothimbir Wadi by Aaswad is a delicacy! Coriander leaves, garlic and some hot masalas mixed in gram flour, the batter is deep fried in oil and served with a special coconut Chutney. One can distinctly taste the kick the garlic adds to the Wadi and the Chutney compliments the dish really well.

The Misal Pav is a legend and has been recommended time and again by patrons. The specialty of the Misal at Aaswad is the taste. Spicy and tangy, the Misal Masala used by the restaurant is the Hero of this dish. Presented beautifully with Farsan and a slice of lemon to add a tinge, The Misal Pav is a must have here.

Lastly, the Thalipeeth, is a personal favourite. Two small, round, blackish flat bread served with a dollop of Cream or Loni and a curd based Chutney, the Thalipeeth will make you crave for more. Crunchy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside, these Thalipeeths were the Hero of their menu!

Aaswad has an amazing variety of sweets and traditional drinks like the Piyush and Kokam Sherbet. Their patrons say that the Kharvas is to die for!

Do visit Aaswad which is located opposite Shiv Sena Bhavan near Shivaji Park, Dadar. Just a little warning: There is an awful lot of people wanting a seat, be sure to reach on time to grab yours!
