After winning six seats out of ten assembly seats, former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who’s party BJP only managed to win four seats in the state bypoll.
“The popularity of Narendra Modi is on wane,” jubilant Nitish Kumar told reporters on Monday.
This time around JD(U), RJD and Congress contested together with forming a new grand alliance against the saffron party.
“If BJP leaders continue with their arrogance the ‘achche din’ (good days) for the party will not last long. Our experiment is a success and people have rejected the charges BJP leaders had hurled on me. The result also that showed that there is no such vote bank of different upper castes,” said Nitish.
RJD supremo Lalu Prasad said, “Voters have rectified their mistake, I thank them for their support.”
Nitish, however, fell short in committing whether the similar coalition will contest in the assembly election next year.
“For the next elections, all the parties will take a decision on their own and then sit together to finalise their course. We have to move ahead slowly,” Nitish said.
This result is also a wake-up call for the BJP as it suffered a huge loss in the Assembly bypolls in Bihar, Karnataka and Punjab where the party had done significantly well in the recent concluded Lok Sabha polls. The party only holds its seats in Madhya Pradesh. In Karnataka Congress won two seats including Bellary seat out of three.
Reacting to the result, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said, “Bihar bypolls results are not as we had expected it to be. As state leaders we take responsibility.”
The NDA managed to win 8 out of the total 18 seats in the assembly bypolls in four states.
