As per the Hindu scriptures they say to complete the purpose of one’s life- a visit to “Char Dham” is a must. He is the “Protector & Destroyer” of the universe, Kedarnath Temples are devoted to Lord Shiva, one of the most powerful and preached Deity in India. Regarded as one the most important religious places in India, Kedarnath is situated at an altitude of 3584 meters above the sea level near Chorbari Glacier, the head of river Mandakani and is also the remotest pilgrimage places in India.  The temple opens its doors for the devotees in April or May and closes in October due to extreme snowfall in that area.  Also known as the Gharwal region, Kedarnath is surrounded by ice capped Himalayas and astonishing natural beauty. To reach the temple one has to travel 14kms of hilly terrain to reach the main temple. It’s not only the religious sentiments that drive tourists to come to Kedarnath but also the idyllic beauty of the Gharwal region attracts lot of tourist to visit Kedarnath.

The 14kms long hilly terrain journey is never futile when you reach the main temple. With the backdrop of Snow covered mountains and peace in air it gives you’re a mesmerizing view, a picture beautifully painted by the God’s. Nearest railway station to Kedarnath is Rishikesh Railway Station which is 189kms away. Taxi service is easily available from Rishikesh to reach Kedarnath touch point.

By Air:

Nearest Airport to Kedarnath is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun which is 239knws away. Taxi & Buses are readly available on rent to reach Kedarnath Base.

By Road:

Many buses from Rishikesh, Dehradun & Haridwar are available to reach Kedarnath. There are both private & state transport buses plying on this route.

Enroute to Kedarnath, there are many other places to visit some of them are; Guptkashi known for its Ardhanareeshwar and Viswanath temples; Gaurikund located en route Kedarnath; Chandrashila known for its pictorial beauty; Agastyamuni situated on the beautiful banks of river Mandakani; Vasuki Tal, a beautiful lake located 8kms from Kedarnath; Triyuginarayan a 5kms treak from Son Prayag and the most popular of all the destinations is Shankaracharya Samadhi.

Local Food: Food in Kedarnath is simple and basic. You may not be able to find 3 or 4star restaurants enroute Kedarnath but some small dhaba’s and eating joints serves delicious and hot food to the tourists visiting the shrine.
