Kaziranga National Park

One of the oldest National Parks and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park is the pride of Assam. Situated in Golghat and Nagaon District , Kaziranga National Park is popular for its two-third population of the World’s Great One-horned Rhinoceroses. Kaziranga National Park has the highest density of Tigers among the protected are and was declared a Tiger Reserve in 2006. Kaziranga also has large population of elephants, water buffaloes and swamp deer.Kaziranga National park is divided into 3 parts namely Kohora, Baghori and Agaratoli. The best way to enjoy this beautiful mix of animals & birds is to go on an Elephant Safari and enjoy the exotic range of birds and animals. With Brahmaputra river crossing Kazirnaga National Park, one can even go on a river cruise and enjoy the nature at its best.

Kaziranga National Park is located in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts in the state of Assam.

November to April is the best time for visit in Kaziranga national park

How to reach:

By Air: The nearest Airport is situated at Guwahati, which is 217kms away from the park. Cab Service can be hired to reach the park.

By Rail: The nearest railhead is Furkating, situated 75kms away from Kaziranga National Park. Taxi service can be hired to reach the National Park.

By Road: Local & Private buses ply regularly from Guwahati, Tezpur and Upper Assam to Kaziranga National Park.

Permits:

Visitors need to take permit to enter into Kaziranga national park. They have to register at the Tourist center in the Bonani Tourist Lodge.

Places to visit:

Some of the places to see around Kaziranga National Park are Gohpur-the historical place of Assam, Panbari Reserve Forest, Kakochang Waterfalls, Deoparbat Ruins, Kalyani Mandir, Basudev Doul, Deotola, Akadohia Pukhuri, Bapuchang and Bhatoukuchi Thaan.

There are many hotel options available near the National Park, From Budget hotels to camps to luxury hotels. Book your hotels well in advance as in season it might be difficult to get lodging near to the park.

There are limited restaurants in the area near the national Park. Food here is expensive, though most lodging provide their own food. Some of the must try are Sankar Dhaba, Tridev Restaurant and Wild Grass Lodge.

Travel Tips:

  • There are lot of malaria cases in this area, do carry mosquito repellant with you.
  • Take warm clothes as the park is generally open in winter time.
  • Hiking in Kaziranga is prohibited.
