Wife of slain NIA officer succumbs after battling for days

On Wednesday morning, the wife of slain NIA officer Tanzil Ahmad, Farzana Khatoon, succumbed to her injuries at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Her husband Ahmad was on the rank of an assistant commandant with the Border Security Force (BSF). Her death comes in around ten days after some unidentified murderers ‘waylaid’ the couple and shot them repeatedly in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh.

Ahmad sustained around 21 injuries in the disastrous attack on April 3, while his wife Farzana was shot around four times. The couple was reported to be returning after attending a wedding ceremony in Bijnor, post-midnight, when they were stopped and shot. Farzana was initially brought to the Fortis Hospital in the region of Noida, following which she was shifted. She then succumbed to her brutal injuries while being in the intensive care unit (ICU) at around 10.45 a.m., a National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer stated.

“She was battling for life following the bullet injuries. Her last rites will be held at Jamia Milia Campus Burial Ground at 6.30 p.m.,” the officer further added in his statement.
