Tokyo to host 2020 Olympic Games

Tokyo wins the bid to host 2020 Olympic Games defeating fears over radiation from the Fukushima nuclear plant. International Olympic Committee votes in Beunos Aires on Sunday in favour of Tokyo with 60-36 votes against Istanbul. Madrid was out in the first round.

Triple Olympic gold medalist wrestler and Japan’s bid ambassador Saori Yoshida was visibly ecstatic when she said, “This is a credit to the efforts of the entire nation. The chance to see the highest level of sport live is a great chance for everyone and as an Olympic athlete I’m thrilled.”

“I have been waiting a long time for this feeling. The members of the IOC have seen that Tokyo is a safe pair of hands,” Bid chief Tsunekazu Takeda said.

“I would like to thank everyone in the Olympic movement and we will host a wonderful Olympic Games,” Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said.

Cheers broke in Tokyo after the news came in the early morning and people shouts with joy and happiness.

This is the second time when Tokyo won as the venue of Olympics games.
