New Zealand claw back after early setback

New Zealand end on 329/4 at stumps on first day of the first of the two test match series to take the driver’s seat. They managed to overcome the early jolts provided by the Indian bowlers, thanks to some brilliant batting by Kane Williamson and Brendon McCullum. New Zealand end on 329 for 4Both them slammed centuries to put their team on the front foot at the end of 90 overs.

But an hour after the start of the day’s India was very much on the top as Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan picked 3 early wickets to give India a good solid start after India had won the toss and decided to field first. NZ at one time was 30 with the loss of 3 wickets. The scenario changed once Kane Williamson came in followed by Brendon McCullum. Williamson played with controlled aggression, very much in the way he has played throughout the one-dayers, and was well accompanied by the captain at the other end. McCullum played his natural game and set up a partnership of 221 runs with Williamson to see NZ out of any sort of danger. Both the players scored individual hundreds. Williamson got out for 113 while McCullum is still not out on 143 and looking good for more. After the Williamson went out edging one to Dhoni of Zaheer, Corey Anderson came on and has eased his way through to 42.

Things are not looking too bright for the visitors at the moment as the Kiwis are set to post a huge total. India really needs to do something special on the second day morning. Otherwise there will a repetition of what the Indians have become familiar to watch in the last few years. India’s target currently is to get the Kiwis out as early as possible tomorrow in order to avoid further humiliation after the 4-0 drubbing in the one-dayers.
